2 November – The Dorchester Hotel set the perfect scene for this year’s Walpole British Luxury Awards, hosted by top model and personality, Jack Guinness.
2nd November, 2015The ceremony, founded in 1990 as a way to celebrate British-made excellence across the mediums of luxury products, hospitality and the arts, has become an international mark-of-excellence for winners and the awards evening was packed with a ‘who’s who’ of British luxury, which according to Walpole’s own research is now worth £25bn to British export.
Other nominees for the prestigious category of ‘Best British Craftsmanship’ included Aston Martin, Aryma, the artisan marquetry specialists; Haute Couture house, Ralph & Russo; and Redman Whiteley Dixon, the bespoke superyacht designers.
Despite this stiff competition, the only real barrier to Roger receiving the award was the dense UK-wide fog which caused all Isle of Man flights to be cancelled. Our marketing representative, Alistair Audsley accepted the award from category sponsors The Design Centre, on Roger’s behalf, thanking Walpole for ‘shining a light on British watchmaking through the lense of luxury’.
Commenting on the award, Roger said: “Embracing the very notion of ‘luxury’ is actually quite new for me, for my own world is about solving the complications of time. However, an award like Walpole’s, founded in luxury, embraces a much broader world of craft disciplines – fashion, yacht design, sports-cars, marquetry and watchmaking – but what I think binds us all is a dedication to our craft. I am very proud to accept this award as a British watchmaker and to have our worlds align thanks to Walpole – in luxury”.
